1. During the same recording sessions in early , Savatage put down the material for both their debut LP `Sirens' and the EP `The Dungeons Are Calling' which was released a year later. It seems that the heavier material from these sessions ended up on `Dungeons' because every song packs a mighty wallop with little to no mellow respites/5(24).

2. the servants of the devil. "City Beneath The Surface" is actually a song that was written when Savatage was still Avatarfor their "City Beneath the Surface" EP. The song begins with an eerie synth intro, which melts into a slow, Black Sabbath-like heavy guitar riff before jumping into a speedy metal riff. Musically, this is probably my favorite.

8. When Savatage was still Avatar, the City Beneath the Surface EP apparently gained them a good deal of attention. It's no wonder after listening to this song off of the "Dungeons" EP. The song is very symmetrical, beginning with a synth intro, which melts into a slow-paced, Black Sabbathesque heavy riff.
